Learning Support Assistant (SEN) Full time (Monday to Friday)  Hours 8:30am - 3:30pm Permanent  Location - Christchurch Start date - September 2025 or ASAP The School and Role An Alternative Provision school located in Christchurch is currently looking for Learning Support Assistants to begin in September. The school serves primary and secondary students aged 6 to 16 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, as well as ASD and other needs such as trauma, school phobia, Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), and Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD). All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The successful Support Assistant will work both in small groups and on a one-to-one basis with pupils, providing academic support, helping them overcome learning barriers, and offering emotional assistance. Your role will be vital in fostering the educational and emotional growth of children with special needs or challenging behaviours. Working closely with the class teacher and the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), you will help create a positive, inclusive learning environment tailored to each student’s individual needs. Key Responsibilities: Provide 1-1 support to a specific student, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans. Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt teaching materials and methods to meet the unique needs of the student. Foster a nurturing and supportive relationship with the student to enhance their social and emotional well-being. Qualifications and Experience: Experience working with children with special needs or challenging behaviour. Understanding of various learning styles and the ability to adapt teaching methods accordingly. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational journey of every child.
