Job Description

Leaving Care Personal Advisor Location: Lambeth, London Contract: 3 months (initially) Hours: 35 hours per week Rate: £30 per hour (Umbrella) (£23 PAYE an hour) About the Role Lambeth Council is seeking an experienced and passionate Leaving Care Personal Advisor to join our dedicated team supporting young people transitioning from care to independence. This is a vital role where you’ll make a real difference in helping care leavers build positive futures and achieve their potential. You will work in partnership with young people, carers, social workers, and a range of partner agencies to provide holistic, person-centred support in line with the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000, the Children Act 1989, and associated legislation and guidance. Key Purpose of the Role To work collaboratively with young people preparing to leave care, ensuring their transition to independence is safe, supported, and sustainable. To promote the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of young people, empowering them to take responsibility for their lives and make positive choices. To ensure that all needs relating to religion, culture, language, ethnicity, gender, and background are recognised and appropriately met.Main Responsibilities Multi-Agency Collaboration: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key agencies to ensure a co-ordinated, multi-agency approach to supporting care leavers. Pathway Planning: Work in partnership with young people, social workers, carers, and partner agencies to co-ordinate, monitor, and review Pathway Plans for allocated young people moving towards adulthood and independence. Accommodation & Financial Support: Support young people to sustain their accommodation, prevent rent arrears, and avoid eviction through proactive engagement and financial planning. Work collaboratively with benefits agencies, housing officers, and other partners to ensure young people receive appropriate financial support and entitlements. Empowerment & Advocacy: Promote young people’s rights and welfare, ensuring they have access to opportunities, education, training, and employment, while building their confidence and independence.About You To be successful in this role, you will have: Experience working with young people, ideally within a leaving care or youth support setting. A strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and the Children Act 1989. Excellent communication, organisational, and partnership-working skills. The ability to build trust and motivate young people from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of housing, benefits, and education/training pathways for care leavers.Why Join Lambeth Council?
