Overview:
First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Lecturer in Travel and Tourism on behalf of one of our clients.
The main purpose of the job is to ensure the retention and achievement of students through the delivery of good practice in teaching and learning. The Lecturer will teach, develop and improve programmes of study in subjects and courses relevant to the post-holder’s knowledge, qualifications and experience.
Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in open evenings and recruitment activities to ensure that potential applicants and students receive accurate information and guidance.
Complete and contribute to the production of accurate information and fact sheets.
Interview potential applicants and contribute to the college’s interviewing schedules.
Contribute to the development, promotion and delivery of the team’s marketing and recruitment strategies.
Carry out student inductions and contribute to the design of induction programmes.
Understand and keep up to date with student support and learning support arrangements, ensuring students have full information and making appropriate referrals.
Where appropriate ensure that basic skills initial and diagnostic assessments, are undertaken and that students receive effective learning support.
Ensure that resources within your subject area are kept up-to-date and accessible to students and other staff in liaison with the curriculum managers and the learning centres.
Teach on a range of programmes in the relevant subject area, which could include:
NCFE levels 1, 2 and 3 Travel and Tourism as well as Level 1 Aviation and Level 2 Cabin Crew.
City & Guilds Level 3 Extended Diploma.
BTEC Level 3 Aviation Operations.
BTEC Level 4 HNC and Level 5 HND International Travel and Tourism Management.
Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and resource materials for teaching programmes.
Utilise IT and learning technology to deliver elements of the curriculum.
To ensure that students attend and achieve on all areas of their study programmes including maths and English and work experience.
Skills and Qualifications:
The post of Lecturer involves considerable subject-based and pedagogic knowledge and understanding, and it is therefore essential that the post holder has a motivation for keeping themselves up to date with developments in their professional area and also in the practices of teaching and learning.
All post holders are expected to consistently review and assess their performance alongside colleagues and engage in positive and critical debate on pedagogic issues.
All lecturers must be committed to inclusive learning and ensuring that they take on the very best practice to meet individual learner needs including the promotion of equal opportunities. All staff are expected to adopt a flexible approach to their work.
Minimum of level 3 qualification in travel & tourism or related area.
A recognised full teaching qualification for the FE sector at Level 5 or above or willingness and ability to work towards a teaching qualification, supported by the college.
English and Maths at GCSE Grade C / 4 or equivalent, or willing to achieve.
Emergency first aid certificate or willing or obtain.
Clean driving licence and willingness and ability to undertake minibus driving training.
Teaching or training experience in the relevant subject area.
Experience of working within the travel and tourism industry, including experience of the aviation industry.
Up to date knowledge of the relevant subject area.
Valid passport and willingness and ability to participate in UK and overseas student trips.
The ability to engage and inspire vocational learners, primarily aged 16-19.
Desirable:
Degree is highly desirable.
Experience of delivering BTEC, City and Guilds & NCFE qualifications.
Experience of delivering HE qualifications
