Legal Support Assistant
Location: Shrewsbury
Salary: £24,600 PA to start, rising after probation, plus excellent benefits.
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an organised and motivated individual to join a leading legal practice as a Legal Support Assistant within the Clinical Negligence Department. Working as part of a team of experienced specialists, you will play a key role in supporting fee earners and contributing to the smooth and efficient delivery of legal services.
This position is a low-fee-earning role, designed to provide essential administrative and legal support to the department.
About the Role
Reporting to a Fee Earner, Partner, or Head of Department, you will work under close supervision to assist with a range of administrative and client-related tasks. This is a varied and hands-on position requiring accuracy, attention to detail and a proactive approach.
Your work will include:
Providing high-quality administrative and legal support to the Clinical Negligence team.
Managing file preparation, maintenance, and closure in line with firm procedures.
Recording and monitoring all time spent on client matters, ensuring accurate billing.
Liaising with the Legal Support Service team on file opening, dictation, and administrative processes.
Gathering client details electronically and coordinating with Legal Aid Agencies where required.
Acting as a first point of contact for departmental enquiries.
Scheduling client appointments and maintaining diaries for fee earners.
Preparing correspondence, documentation and bundles as directed.
Taking detailed client instructions (without providing advice) and assisting in progressing matters.
Attending client meetings to take notes and support fee earners.
Managing client communication professionally and efficiently, ensuring a positive client experience.
Processing invoices and handling payments in line with firm procedures.
Promoting the firm’s services and identifying opportunities to add value to client relationships.
About You
You will be highly organised, professional, and capable of managing a varied workload under supervision. A keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy are essential, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You should be confident liaising with clients and colleagues at all levels and comfortable working within established systems and procedures.
You will also:
Previous experience within a legal environment is ESSENTIAL.
Demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality and professional standards.
Be IT literate, with experience using document management and case systems.
Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Be adaptable, with the ability to support other teams during busy periods or absences.
Be committed to ongoing learning and professional development.
