Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Life Skills & Food Safety Tutor to join the education team at HMP The Mount. This is an excellent opportunity for an inspiring educator who can do more than just deliver training — someone who can engage, motivate, and make a real difference to learners who may have had limited access to education in the past.
Based on-site, you will deliver engaging, high-quality courses focused on life skills, food hygiene, and personal development, helping learners gain practical, transferable skills that support both their rehabilitation and future employment opportunities.
You will plan and deliver lessons, assess learner progress, and ensure that individual training plans are in place. You will play a key role in helping each learner reach their full potential through structured teaching, guidance, and encouragement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver engaging and practical lessons in Life Skills and Food Safety to small groups of learners.
* Support learners in developing confidence, motivation, and transferable skills for future education or employment.
* Create and maintain individual learning plans that support each learner’s personal and professional development.
* Ensure all learning activities meet quality and compliance standards.
* Monitor learner progress through regular assessment and constructive feedback.
* Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and personal growth.
* Provide advice, guidance, and support to help learners achieve their long-term goals.
* Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve teaching materials and delivery methods.
* Contribute to the wider aims of the education department by supporting initiatives to enhance learner engagement and outcomes.
Essential Criteria:
* A Level 2 vocational qualification (or higher) in a relevant subject area such as Food Safety, Catering, or Life Skills.
* Strong vocational experience within your field.
* Experience delivering training or teaching sessions to groups of learners.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate learners.
* A flexible and supportive approach to teaching, tailored to individual learning needs.
Desirable Criteria:
* A recognised teaching or assessing qualification (e.g. PTLLS, AET, CAVA, or equivalent).
* Previous experience working within prison education or an alternative learning environment.
* Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion in education.
