Role Overview
We are seeking a Locum Educational Psychologist to join our local educational psychology service on a flexible basis. The successful candidate will support children and young people with special educational needs by providing high-quality assessments and advice in line with statutory guidance. This role involves working collaboratively with families, educational settings, and other professionals to ensure equitable access to education and promote positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
*
Conduct educational psychology assessments for children and young people, providing statutory advice in accordance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice. This may include contributing to tribunal procedures as required.
*
Report any safeguarding concerns promptly in line with local child protection policies and complete relevant training.
*
Promote evidence-based, inclusive practice within schools and educational settings to support learning, attainment, and well-being, particularly for vulnerable children or those with additional needs.
*
Collaborate with parents, young people, schools, colleges, and other practitioners to identify strengths, define educational outcomes, and support the development of provision plans.
*
Complete reports and advice in line with local authority policies, using established templates and processes, and respond to quality assurance feedback from Senior Educational Psychologists.
*
Maintain high professional standards in line with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) requirements, including continuing professional development and supervision.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Registration
*
Qualification in Educational and Child Psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS) or equivalent.
*
Graduate Basis for Registration and a recognised postgraduate qualification in Educational and Child Psychology.
*
Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
*
Either prior experience as an educational psychologist or completion of a recognised postgraduate qualification sufficient to meet HCPC registration requirements.
Knowledge and Understanding
*
Understanding of inclusive practice in educational settings and commitment to promoting equal opportunities.
*
Up-to-date knowledge of child development, relevant legislation, and child protection procedures.
*
Awareness of psychological models, theories, and contemporary issues affecting educational psychology.
*
Understanding of the organisational context and the application of psychology in educational and organisational settings.
Experience and Skills
*
Evidence of collaborative working with schools, families, and other agencies.
*
Demonstrated ability to apply psychological knowledge to support children’s learning and development.
*
Experience or willingness to engage in reflective practice and continuing professional development.
*
Strong communication and networking skills with colleagues, parents, and partner agencies.
