Locum Planning & Highways Solicitor - Competitive hourly rate - Hybrid Working - North East Local Authority
Location: Hybrid - Primarily remote, with occasional in-person attendance
Contract: 6 months
Rate: DOE - open to discussion
Start: Mid-August 2025
We are working with a local authority in the North East is seeking a Locum Planning & Highways Solicitor to join their legal team.
This role is ideal for an experienced solicitor who thrives in a hybrid working environment and enjoys a broad caseload across planning enforcement, DMMOs, and highways law. You'll be joining a small, supportive team that values independence, collaboration, and high-quality legal advice.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a caseload of planning enforcement prosecutions
Advise on and progress Definitive Map Modification Order (DMMO) applications
Represent the council in prosecutions at Peterlee Magistrates' Court
Attend and advise at planning committee meetings (ad hoc)
Support Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPOs) and regeneration projects
Provide legal advice on planning, highways, and enforcement matters
Essential Criteria:
Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales)
Experience in planning law and planning enforcement prosecutions
Confident advocate in magistrates' courts
Strong ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
Experience in highways law desirable
Previous involvement in CPOs and regeneration
Willingness to travel to for court hearings
