Job Description

M&E Quantity Surveyor London / South East | Rail & Infrastructure | Permanent £75,000 - £90,000 + package If you’re an M&E Quantity Surveyor who wants to work on technically interesting infrastructure projects rather than standard commercial fit-out, this is a strong opportunity. You’ll be joining an established engineering contractor delivering M&E, building services, telecommunications and systems infrastructure across rail, underground, station, tunnel, depot and operational transport environments. This is not a role where you sit away from the project and only look at spreadsheets. The work needs someone commercially sharp who understands how M&E packages are delivered on live, controlled and programme-driven sites. The role You’ll support the commercial delivery of M&E and associated systems packages across rail and infrastructure projects. That means managing cost, value, subcontractor accounts, applications, variations, change control, procurement support, forecasting and final accounts, while working closely with project managers, engineers, site teams and senior commercial leadership. The projects are expected to include building services, LV supplies, lighting, power, SISS, telecommunications, controls, station systems, depot works, tunnel / trackside infrastructure and wider M&E upgrades across live rail environments. You’ll need to understand the commercial detail, but also the practical realities of working in controlled access environments where possession planning, staged works, programme movement and change need to be captured properly. What you’ll be doing Managing commercial control across M&E, building services and infrastructure packages. Preparing applications, valuations, cost reports, forecasts, CVRs and commercial updates. Managing subcontractor accounts from procurement through to final account. Reviewing subcontract orders, payment applications, variations, contra charges and change events. Identifying, pricing and agreeing variations with clients, subcontractors and project teams. Working closely with project managers and engineers to understand progress, risk, delay and cost movement. Supporting procurement, package comparisons, tender returns and subcontractor appointments. Maintaining accurate commercial records, notices, correspondence and project documentation. Helping manage risk, opportunity, cost control, margin and cash position across live projects. Supporting client meetings, internal reviews and contract reporting where required. Working across M&E packages including power, lighting, building services, station systems, telecoms, controls and associated infrastructure. Closing out final accounts in a structured and commercially sensible way. What you’ll need You’ll need experience as a Quantity Surveyor within M&E, building services, rail, infrastructure, construction, civil engineering, specialist subcontracting or technically demanding project environments. M&E experience would be strongly preferred, especially if you have worked around electrical, mechanical, building services, telecommunications, controls or transport infrastructure packages. Rail or infrastructure experience would be useful, but it is not essential if you have strong subcontractor commercial experience and understand project delivery. You should be confident managing subcontract accounts, variations, applications, cost reporting, procurement, forecasting and final accounts. Experience working under NEC or JCT forms of contract would be useful. You’ll need to be organised, commercially aware and comfortable working closely with operational project teams. The right person You’re commercially sharp, practical and detail-led. You can manage subcontractors, protect margin, keep accurate records and support the project team without slowing the job down. You understand that on infrastructure projects, small changes on site can become major commercial issues if they are not captured properly. You’ll suit this role if you want to build your career in rail and infrastructure M&E, working on live projects where the commercial function has real influence. The salary is £75,000 - £90,000 plus package. Apply Send your CV or get in touch for a confidential conversation
