The Estates department is responsible for the maintenance, operation and continuous improvement of campus facilities, ensuring a safe, compliant and sustainable environment for students, staff and visitors.
Your new role
As a Maintenance Inspector (Mechanical), you will provide specialist technical support across the University's mechanical building services infrastructure. You will play a key role in the planning, oversight and delivery of maintenance activities, ensuring systems are operating safely, efficiently and in compliance with statutory requirements.You will act as Deputy Authorised Person and Deputy Responsible Person for designated mechanical services, supporting internal stakeholders and external contractors while providing expert technical advice and guidance. Responsibilities will include fault diagnosis, maintenance planning, contract and KPI management, project delivery, compliance monitoring, training delivery and the supervision of specialist maintenance activities across the estate.You will also work closely with colleagues across the University to develop solutions, lead small-scale improvement projects, establish effective stakeholder relationships and contribute to the continuous enhancement of mechanical engineering services.
Full time on site: Monday to Friday, 8-4pm
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A Degree, NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Demonstrable experience as a Maintenance Inspector, Mechanical Engineer, Building Services Engineer or similar role.
You will have strong IT skills
Strong knowledge of mechanical services plant, distribution systems, water hygiene requirements and statutory compliance.
Experience using specialist engineering systems and software such as CAFM, AutoCAD, BEMS and associated controller interfaces.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to provide technical advice to a wide range of stakeholders.
Experience managing contractors, monitoring KPIs and delivering maintenance projects.
Strong communication, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.Desirable criteria include:
A postgraduate or professional qualification.
Experience working with Honeywell Trend Building Energy Management Systems.
Previous experience within a Higher Education environment.
Welsh language skills (written and spoken).What you'll get in return
