Maintenance Manager (Civil Engineering) Location: Co. Kildare Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Salary: €45,000-€55,000+ per year / hourly rate (DOE) Benefits: Company vehicle, 5% pension, healthcare, Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), career progression About the Role We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance function for a busy civil engineering and road surfacing business. You'll be responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of HGVs, quarry plant, surfacing equipment, and site facilities across operations in Leinster and Munster. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing mechanics/fitters, planning preventative maintenance, managing breakdown response, and making sure the fleet and plant are always safe, compliant, and ready to work. Key Responsibilities Oversee the inspection, servicing, and repair of HGVs, construction plant, quarry equipment, and site machinery. Plan and implement preventative maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and extend asset life. Lead and supervise the maintenance team (fitters, mechanics, and support staff); allocate daily workload and support technical problem-solving. Coordinate and respond quickly to urgent breakdowns and emergency repairs. Maintain accurate service records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation for all vehicles, plant, and equipment. Ensure all maintenance activities meet health, safety, and environmental standards. Manage maintenance budgets, parts procurement, and relationships with external contractors/suppliers. Liaise with project managers, site supervisors, and operations leads to align maintenance activity with programme needs. Drive continuous improvement in workshop standards, reliability, and asset performance.What We're Looking For Proven experience in a maintenance management/workshop management/fleet & plant lead role, ideally in quarry, construction, civil engineering, road surfacing, or heavy plant environments. Strong technical understanding of HGVs, surfacing plant, quarry/construction machinery, hydraulics, and diagnostics. Able to prioritise reactive and planned work in a live operational environment. Confident people leader with experience supervising fitters/mechanics. Competent in maintenance planning, scheduling, and asset management systems. Strong awareness of safety, compliance, and audit standards. Full clean driving licence (HGV licence is an advantage). Relevant mechanical or plant maintenance qualification (or equivalent practical experience).Desirable: Experience with hydraulic systems, welding/fabrication, fault diagnostics, and compliance inspections. Familiarity with ISO standards, safety audits, Safe Pass, and Manual Handling.Working Hours Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Flexibility for overtime or emergency call-outs as required.Package / Benefits Salary: €45,000-€55,000+ per year / hourly rate, depending on experience.
