Maintenance Manager
Location: Bedford
Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent; Monday to Friday
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to join our Bedford-based client, a leader in their field. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this is a hands-on, shop-floor-focused role with additional responsibilities for planning, reporting, and contractor management. You will oversee a shift-based engineering team, ensuring both reactive and preventative maintenance needs are met while upholding high standards in safety, quality, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of the shift-based engineering team, including attendance, discipline, and performance reviews.
Deliver effective reactive maintenance and provide additional support as needed.
Execute and oversee the Preventative Maintenance program.
Collaborate with Production and Planning teams to optimise maintenance schedules.
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures across the engineering department.
Oversee and manage contractors on-site.
Maintain accurate records through IFS and other work order documentation.
Establish a structured approach to spares management, including the identification, warehousing, and control of critical spares.
Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, BRCGS standards, and customer codes of practice.
Qualifications and Experience:
Strong understanding of Health and Safety at work, including COSHH, Risk Assessments, DSEAR, and PTW systems.
Proven experience in managing teams and controlling contractors.
Tertiary engineering qualification (C&G, HND, or equivalent).
Solid background in engineering management.
Effective leadership and team management skills.
Strategic thinking capability combined with hands-on problem-solving.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
