We are a leading provider of student accommodation in Birmingham, managing vibrant communities where students live and thrive. We're looking for a reliable, skilled maintenance operative to join our maintenance team and ensure our buildings are safe, comfortable, and well-maintained year-round.
Your Role: Keeping Our Student Homes Running Smoothly
You'll be the first line of defence in maintaining our buildings, responding to repairs, and helping create a positive living environment for our students.
Key duties include:
* Reactive Repairs: Promptly responding to maintenance requests (leaks, blockages, door/window faults, furniture repairs, minor electrical, plumbing issues, etc.).
* Preventative Maintenance: Conducting regular checks and basic servicing of facilities, fire doors, appliances, and communal areas.
* Fabric Upkeep: Carrying out carpentry, plastering, tiling, painting, and decorating tasks to a high standard.
* Safety Compliance:** Ensuring all work meets health & safety regulations (especially fire safety) and building compliance standards.
Who We're Looking For:
* Proven Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Handyman, Maintenance Operative, or similar multi-skilled role (property maintenance, facilities, or hospitality background ideal).
* Practical Skills: Strong competency across plumbing, carpentry, basic electrical (changing sockets/lights), plastering, painting, and general DIY.
* Safety First: Solid understanding of Health & Safety practices, especially in occupied buildings. Fire safety awareness is crucial.
* Problem Solver: Ability to diagnose issues quickly, find practical solutions, and work independently.
* Organised & Efficient: Excellent time management, able to prioritise a busy workload and complete tasks to schedule.
* Tech Savvy: Comfortable using a mobile device for job logging/reporting (training provided).
* Right to Work: Valid right to work in the UK.
Desirable (but not essential):
* Experience working in student accommodation, hotels, or multi-occupancy buildings (HMOs).
* Formal qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 2 in Maintenance Operations, Plumbing, Carpentry).
* Knowledge of building management systems (BMS) basics.
* PASMA/IPAF certification (working at height).
* First Aid at Work certificate.
