Job Title: Maintenance Technician (Fitter/Fabricator)
Location: Long Buckby
Hourly Rate: £18phr
Shift: Monday to Friday – Min 40 hours per week
Reports to: Maintenance Team Leader

Job Purpose:
The Maintenance Technician (Fitter/Fabricator) is responsible for performing planned and reactive maintenance tasks, fabricating, and fitting components and assemblies, and ensuring plant and equipment operate safely and efficiently. The role combines mechanical maintenance, fitting, fabrication, and troubleshooting to support operational uptime and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on plant machinery, equipment, and site infrastructure.
* Fabricate, assemble, and install mechanical components (cutting, welding, drilling, grinding, etc.) to support repairs or modifications.
* Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
* Carry out fitting duties, including dismantling and reassembling machinery and equipment.
* Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs in a timely manner.
* Support installation and commissioning of new equipment.
* Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including completed work, parts used, and time spent.
* Adhere to all site safety procedures and regulations, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
* Collaborate with other departments (e.g., production, engineering, health & safety) to minimise downtime and improve reliability.
* Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and suggest ways to enhance maintenance processes and equipment performance.
* Assist with emergency breakdowns as needed, including out-of-hours support if required (optional / depending on role).
Skills and Competencies:
* Strong mechanical fitting and fabrication skills (cutting, welding, grinding, assembly).
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
* Problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
* Familiarity with health & safety practices and risk assessments in an industrial environment.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Relevant mechanical engineering qualification (e.g., City & Guilds / NVQ / Apprenticeship in Mechanical Maintenance or Fabrication & Welding).
* Proven experience in mechanical maintenance, fitting, and fabrication in a manufacturing, industrial, or engineering setting.
* Welding certification (preferred but not always required).
* Experience with a variety of hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices
