Job Description

We are looking for a Maintenance Technician to work in a busy manufacturing environment at our Consett, County Durham site Salary: £51,000 to £52,000 plus 25% shift allowance and overtime Working hours: * 4 days on, 4 day off * Days: 6.00am – 18.00pm * Night: 18.00pm – 6.00am Purpose of role and key accountabilities: * Being ‘hands on’ supporting Production in the efficient running of the Plant Equipment, being the first point of contact and helping with communication throughout the Production process to ensure that quality goods are delivered to our customers on time. To ensure that any significant concerns are escalated to the Maintenance Manager * As a minimum it is expected that the individual will demonstrate * Safe Systems of Work * Key performance indicators at the standard required. * Commitment to personal development * Efficient time to repair and quality of work. * Limit downtime and promote machine availability. Core skills/attributes needed: * Issue work to team and partake in daily team meetings. * Train and develop other team members in processes and skills where required. * An expert in chosen field i.e. signed off on all relevant areas of the training matrix * Has a desire to mentor to new starters * Leads by example to all others in the business. * Active in all areas of the department for example Health & Safety etc. * Promote Continuous Improvement and Health & Safety activities. * Is eager to improve both themselves, others and the department. * HNC, Time Served Apprenticeship or equivalent within an engineering discipline Core Competencies: Problem Solver The individual must tackle problems and find solutions quickly and efficiently, using their experience within the business. Besides unearthing problems or potential problems, these individuals must have the ability to explain the issue to others, remain positive at all times and provide reassurance where necessary to enable the continued and safe running of the business. The individual must bring ideas to the table and facilitate a positive and open environment where others can contribute their suggestions. Must have proven and be able to demonstrate practical application of theoretical concepts. Makes Decisions In the absence of a Team Leader/Senior Team Leader and where necessary the individual must be able to make decisions and lead the team through the decision-making process. Once decisions are made, follow through and support key deadlines in the process. Communicates Well Potential candidates for this grade / level should be good communicators. Leaders are an important link in the communication chain and the technician grade provides opportunity for individual to take that next step in their career. Inter-departmental communication is crucial and those individuals must possess the skills to drive forward results with their team, in the best possible way. Besides promoting communication internally, these individuals must be able to share the company's vision with customers and suppliers. Candidates for promotion should be persuasive but willing to listen when others have good ideas. Organises Tasks Wherever necessary and in the absence of a Team Leader / Senior Team Leader it may be necessary for the individual to organise the department, people and projects, facilitate meetings and oversee everyday tasks. Criteria for this grade / level should include good administration skills. Motivates Others Leaders need to be able to motivate their teams. The individual should have sincere concern for the health and wellness of all employees. These key positions should be filled by people who know how to show their appreciation and recognition to other employees regularly. A high level of enthusiasm, the ability to think positively, and vision-casting are also key criteria that should be considered. Review Process All appointed individuals will be reviewed on an annual basis and in line with the criteria outlined above. Should the duties and/or responsibilities change over this period we have a process in place to make any necessary changes. Appointing & Removing In appointing an individual to this grade / level and subject to the review process outlined above, the appointment and removal of the extra payment is to be at the discretion of management. The employee must also strive to support the elements of the SQCDP framework of the wider Gardner business; * Safety: work in line with all accredited company safety standards in order to provide a safe working environment for all * Quality: support the quality accreditations across the business to ensure the delivery of a ‘right first time’ performance * Cost: support the continuous improvements in cost reduction activities across the company in order to deliver increased profitability and value for money to our customers and stakeholders * Delivery: drive improvement in delivery performance to continually exceed customer expectations and targets * People: support organisational capability and influence cultural change by embracing diversity, inclusion, wellbeing and community Measurable performance indicators/objectives of role: * Support the achievement of team targets to required standard (ie quality, cost, delivery). * Support the training of team members to ensure maximum flexibility in order to respond to customer requirements, managing resource. * Maintenance of health and safety/housekeeping standards within the team to required standard. * Successful implementation of continuous improvement plans (i.e. cost reduction, improvements to productivity, quality, health and safety). * Regular updates of the training / skills matrix. An annual appraisal will be held to ensure the employee and their Line Manager is happy with their performance, progress and development. Further reviews may also be held to discuss any ongoing training needs of the employee
