Fabric Engineer - Retail / External Grounds
 
Location: Gunwharf Quays Shopping Centre, Portsmouth
 Company: CBRE Global Workplace Solutions (GWS)
 Contract: Full‑time
 
Role Overview
 
We are recruiting a Fabric Engineer to deliver planned and reactive fabric maintenance across a large, high‑profile retail shopping centre. This role includes responsibility for external building fabric and grounds, alongside internal PPMs.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver PPM and reactive fabric maintenance across the site
Carry out general fabric works: carpentry, patch repairs, basic plumbing, painting & decorating
Inspect and maintain fire doors and internal finishes
Take ownership of external fabric and grounds, including paving, street furniture, handrails, bollards, signage and external fixtures
Complete routine external inspections and raise defects proactively
Coordinate and oversee specialist subcontractors for external / grounds works
Use CAFM / PDA systems to log and close works accurately
Ensure all works comply with Health & Safety requirements, especially in public areas
Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a Fabric Engineer / Fabric Technician
Strong all‑round building fabric skillset (carpentry preferred)
Experience working with external fabric or grounds maintenance
Comfortable working in busy, public‑facing retail environments
Good understanding of PPM delivery and reactive maintenance
Health & Safety awareness (RAMS, COSHH, Working at Height)Desirable:

Civils qualification
IPAF, PASMA, manual handling competency
Fire door experience
Retail or large estate experience
