Progression to Financial Controller

Are you a Management Accountant looking for genuine progression, not just a title change on paper?

This is an opportunity to join a well-established SME in the Newark area with a £6m turnover, working closely with an experienced Finance Controller and Operations Director in a hands-on, commercially focused finance environment.

The business operates across multiple divisions including engineering projects, maintenance services, and product sales – meaning no two days in finance are the same.

You’ll be stepping into a key role supporting the finance function day-to-day, with a clear development pathway into Senior Management Accountant and then Financial Controller.

What you’ll be doing:
You’ll be fully involved in all areas of the finance function, including:

  * Sales and purchase ledger management

  * Bank reconciliations and cash postings

  * Expenses processing and general bookkeeping

  * Supporting month-end processes including accruals and prepayments

  * Assisting with management accounts preparation

  * Maintaining the fixed asset register

  * Working across a Sage 50 environment and an in-house order processing system

This is a “hands-on” role – ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the detail but also wants exposure to the wider commercial picture.

What we’re looking for:

  * Experience in a Management Accountant / Assistant Management Accountant role

  * Strong understanding of core accounting processes and month-end

  * Confident working in SME environments where flexibility is key

  * Experience with Sage 50 (or similar accounting systems)

  * Someone ambitious who wants a clear route into a Financial Controller position
