About the Role
To lead and manage a team within the Wakefield Mail Hub, ensuring efficient and accurate mail processing, dispatch, and delivery operations.
The Works Area Manager will be responsible for achieving performance targets, maintaining compliance with company standards, and fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Leading and motivating a team to achieve performance targets for mail sorting, processing, and dispatch.
Overseeing daily hub operations, ensuring all incoming and outgoing mail is handled accurately and on time.
Allocating workloads and monitoring performance, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety standards are consistently met.
Supporting staff development through on-the-job training, coaching, and performance feedback.
Maintaining compliance with health and safety policies, operational procedures, and company standards.
Monitoring mail flow and resolving operational issues quickly to prevent delays or service failures.
Coordinating with transport teams to ensure timely dispatch and delivery schedules are maintained.
Recording and reporting key performance metrics such as throughput, accuracy, and attendance.
Promoting a positive team culture that encourages collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Acting as the main point of contact for management and other departments.

You’ll have:
Key Responsibilities
Lead, supervise, and motivate a team to meet productivity, quality, and service targets.
Manage day-to-day operational activities across designated mail sorting and dispatch areas.
Monitor performance, provide feedback, and support staff development through coaching and on-the-job training.
Allocate work and resources effectively to ensure mail is processed and dispatched on schedule.
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and operational policies.
Track and report on key operational metrics, including throughput, accuracy, and attendance.
Identify and resolve operational issues quickly to prevent service disruption.
Coordinate with transport and other internal teams to maintain delivery schedules.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
Act as the key contact between operational staff and senior management, ensuring clear communication and issue resolution.Desirable:
Experience in lean processes or continuous improvement initiatives.
