A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Managing Estimator to join and lead the Estimating team at a thriving main contractor based in Sussex.
This established and growing contractor delivers high-quality projects up to £15 million across Sussex, Surrey, and London, with a focus on commercial, education, and façade remediation sectors. With a current turnover of £20m and ambitious plans to double this to £40m within four years, the business is entering an exciting phase of expansion—and is now seeking a Lead Estimator to head up the estimating department.
The Role:
The successful candidate will report directly to the Directors and take full ownership of the estimating function. They will manage and mentor a team of two estimators, ensuring high-quality, competitive bids are delivered consistently and efficiently. This is a leadership position with real influence across pre-construction strategy and business development.
Key responsibilities include:

Managing and developing a team of two estimators
*
Leading the department and overseeing all tendering activity
*
Taking responsibility for converting enquiries into secured contracts
*
Engaging with clients to understand their requirements and tailoring proposals accordingly
*
Working closely with internal departments to price projects, develop early-stage programmes, and provide value engineering solutions
*
Identifying and mitigating commercial and project risks
*
Conducting supply chain research and building relationships to support bid strategy
*
Playing a key role in the company’s wider strategic growth and success
Candidate Requirements:
*
Proven experience as an Estimator in the UK construction industry, ideally with a main contractor
*
Demonstrable experience managing or mentoring others within a pre-construction team
*
Successful track record of pricing and securing projects valued £5m+ across various sectors
*
In-depth knowledge of JCT contracts (Design & Build and Traditional)
*
Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills
*
Willingness to travel to sites across the South East as required
