Job Description

An excellent opportunity for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a market-leading civil engineering contractor renowned for delivering complex and innovative infrastructure projects within the UK water sector. With a global turnover of £2.52 billion and a strong track record of sustainable growth, my client is looking to expand their commercial team with a talented Managing QS, based in their Exeter office. As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will: * Take full accountability for financial and contractual performance of projects. * Oversee project finances against targets, ensuring robust cost control and reporting. * Administer contracts in line with terms, with effective change management and risk/opportunity control. * Lead compliant procurement and manage subcontractor/supplier costs. * Resolve commercial queries, advise on legal issues, and support dispute resolution. * Maintain accurate cost plans, forecasts, and financial records; prepare and present monthly reports (MPR, CVR). * Manage client led duties. * Conduct audits, attend project meetings, and carry out site visits to monitor progress. * Ensure client assurance processes, governance, and documentation requirements are met. * Manage and develop a QS team (3 - 6 people), providing mentoring, reviews, and career development. * Build strong relationships with clients, supply chain, and internal teams to drive performance. * Share best practice, lessons learned and upskill stakeholders on contractual/commercial matters. * Lead by example, promoting company values and a collaborative, high-performance culture. Our client requires a Managing Quantity Surveyor with: * Proven success in Quantity Surveying, managing multiple large projects. * Strong knowledge of cost monitoring, contract administration, and commercial reporting. * NEC form of contract experience. * Experience in civil engineering, with proficiency in cost management tools and IT systems. * Demonstrated ability to lead, develop teams, and deliver against deadlines. * Skilled at building effective relationships with clients, teams, and stakeholders. * Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or equivalent experience. * Professional membership (RICS/CICES) or working towards it (desirable). * Understanding of Lean principles (desirable).
