CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY: Manufacturing Engineer - Zero Defects Lead
Location: South Birmingham] | 6-Month Contract | Inside IR35
Are you an experienced Manufacturing Engineering professional ready to make a real impact? We’re looking for a Zero Defects Lead to help drive our clients mission to eliminate defects and champion industry-leading quality in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment.
About the Role:
This is not your typical contract position — as the Zero Defects Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in a high-profile programme at the core of our operations. You’ll lead the Zero Defect Manufacturing Workstream, working closely with design, production, quality, and supply chain teams to drive process excellence and embed a zero-defects culture.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead critical projects focused on producibility, measurement, and capable processes.
* Be an active member of a cross-functional steering team driving priority improvements and solutions.
* Engage teams, close skills gaps, embed AS13000 standards, and build a strong continuous improvement culture.
* Act as a key technical interface with stakeholders and customers, ensuring robust processes and sustainable results.
What We’re Looking For:
* Experience in machining, fabrication, or similar manufacturing environments (aerospace, defence, automotive, or high-spec industrial sectors).
* A strong track record leading Zero Defects or significant continuous improvement initiatives.
* Expert understanding of APQP core tools, including PPAP, PFMEA, MSA, SOPs.
* Solid knowledge of process control, process capability, and statistical validation tools.
* Proficiency in 8D/DMAIC problem-solving and Value Stream Mapping.
* Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
* Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage primary customer interfaces.
* Desirable: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, ERP systems experience, and knowledge of special processes such as forging or heat treatment.
