Job Description
The Client:
A well-established and fast-growing main contractor with a strong track record across the commercial, residential, healthcare and education sectors, this busy Essex-based business delivers high-quality refurbishment and new build projects throughout the South East. Known for their reliable project delivery and repeat business, they are now looking to strengthen their commercial team with the addition of a dedicated Materials Buyer to support ongoing growth.
The Role:
As Materials Buyer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth and cost-effective procurement of materials across a variety of live construction projects. Working closely with site teams, project managers and suppliers, you’ll take ownership of the full buying process — from sourcing and negotiating prices to ensuring timely delivery to site. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic contractor in a stable, long-term role.
Responsibilities:
• Source, negotiate and procure materials for a variety of new build and refurbishment projects.
• Manage relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure best value and reliable service.
• Monitor stock levels, material lead times and project programmes to ensure timely delivery to site.
• Raise and manage purchase orders, tracking deliveries and resolving any supply issues.
• Work closely with site teams and project managers to understand material requirements and delivery schedules.
• Maintain accurate records of costs, supplier performance and procurement schedules.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and improved efficiency within the supply chain.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Experience in a similar role within a construction or main contracting environment.
• Strong knowledge of building materials and construction supply chains.
• Excellent negotiation and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple procurement requirements across several live projects.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and procurement software systems.
• Based in Essex or within a reasonable commuting distance.
