Job Description

Job Title:           Materials Controller Type:                 Permanent  Location:           South Wales Salary:               £33,397 per annum Hours:                37 hours   BRC are working closely with a leading housing organisation to recruit a Materials Controller to join their Property Services team.   This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-driven, commercially minded and analytical professional who is passionate about value for money, data accuracy and continuous improvement.   The successful candidate will monitor material usage, van stock, basket lists and ordering patterns across Property Services, identifying trends, inconsistencies and opportunities to reduce waste and improve efficiency.   You'll work closely with operatives, supervisors, suppliers, procurement and finance teams to ensure stock is managed effectively, materials are used consistently and the right products are available at the right time.   Duties: Prepare van stock profiles in line with current stock usage. Conduct regular van stock audits, warehouse checks and materials spot checks. Validate stock consumption against jobs to identify over-use, under-use and inconsistencies. Monitor compliance with agreed van stock profiles and escalate concerns where required. Support the reduction of waste, incorrect ordering and unnecessary expenditure. Raise authorised orders for Repairs teams, ensuring correct cost coding and approval routes. Validate order requests to ensure the correct materials, quantities and suppliers are selected. Identify trends relating to product issues, price variations and supply chain risks. Liaise with stores and suppliers to resolve stock issues, shortages and delivery concerns. Track material expenditure at operative, team and trade level. Maintain accurate records of stock adjustments, audits, orders and discrepancies. Produce spending summaries, exception reports and usage profiles. Highlight unusual ordering patterns, repeated inaccuracies and material wastage. Contribute to improvements across materials management, procurement and stock control. Identify opportunities to reduce stock holding, simplify ordering and improve value for money. Support updates to materials catalogues, standard specifications and stock lists. Work collaboratively with Property Services, Repairs Assurance and Performance & Value teams. Help ensure operatives have the correct materials available to complete repairs efficiently. Reduce delays caused by incorrect or unavailable materials and repeat visits. Build effective relationships across Repairs & Maintenance, Major Works, M&E, Procurement and Finance. Contribute to a culture of accuracy, accountability and continuous improvement.   Requirements: Trades Experience Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to identify trends, discrepancies and anomalies. Experience working with stock control, materials management, procurement, purchasing or a similar environment. Commercial awareness and a strong understanding of value for money. Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to data and record keeping. Confident using data to challenge existing processes and identify improvements. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to work collaboratively with operational, procurement and finance teams. Experience producing reports, monitoring expenditure and maintaining accurate records. A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
