Job Description

Role: Materials Planning & Procurement Specialist - Maternity Cover Contract: 6 months initially Location: Basingstoke, Hampshire Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm Rate: £15.83-£23.08 per hour DOE (PAYE only) A great opportunity for a capable and detail-oriented Materials Planning & Procurement Specialist to join my client in Basingstoke on a maternity cover contract. The business overhauls & repairs electronic components, therefore you MUST have previous experience in aerospace, defence, automotive, or complex manufacturing environments. You'll be responsible for ensuring the right materials are ordered, available, and delivered on time to support smooth operations and excellent customer delivery performance. Main Responsibilities: Plan and order direct materials from internal and external suppliers. Minimise shortages, reduce past-due items, and drive inventory accuracy and availability. Monitor and report on material inventory levels with a focus on improving stock turns, TAT and overall material readiness. Work closely with the ERP Coordinator and Logistics team to receive, control, and distribute materials to production and key business areas. Attend and contribute to cross-functional meetings with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Customer Management teams to drive issue resolution and continuous improvement. Support engineering change processes and ensure compliance with internal systems and HS&E/Quality standards. Manage rotable material pools, ensuring optimal availability while balancing inventory and cost, collaborating with internal repair teams and global stakeholders. Identify and mitigate material shortages through reuse, substitution, and customer exchanges. Actively participate in and lead Continuous Improvement projects focused on cost and efficiency gains. Ideal candidate profile: Solid background in supply chain, materials planning, or stores/warehousing. Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems - SAP preferred. Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with a hands-on, proactive approach. Strong attention to detail and organisational skills. Previous experience in aerospace, defence, automotive, or complex manufacturing environments. Ability to prioritise, problem-solve, and manage multiple deadlines. Degree preferred but not essential. Lean / 5S / Continuous Improvement experience. Excellent communication skills - verbal and written. Results-driven team player with a positive, solutions-focused attitude.
