Job Description

Math Teacher   Full time – Temp to perm Jan Start date Rotherham We are looking for a dedicated, patient and resilient Math Teacher to join a specialist PRU-based provision in the South Yorkshire area (Catcliffe / Rotherham). This is a temp-to-perm role,  ideal for someone experienced or keen in working with pupils who have had disrupted education, SEN/SEMH needs or are re-engaging with learning. Key Responsibilities: Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated Maths lessons (KS3–KS4 / GCSE and Functional Skills) to small groups of pupils with varying academic levels and needs. Build trusting relationships with young people who may have experienced exclusion, trauma, or instability,  helping them to re-engage with education and build confidence in numeracy. Work collaboratively with Learning Mentors and support staff to provide pastoral and academic support; help remove barriers to learning and support pupils’ emotional and social development. Support pupils’ transition planning, working with vocational and life-skills programmes so that Maths learning links to practical, real-world contexts (e.g. vocational courses, working life, further training). Maintain high standards of classroom management, flexibility and care; adapt teaching approaches to suit individual learning styles, SEND/SEMH needs, and provide stability and structure. Participate in monitoring pupil progress, providing feedback, helping build foundational numeracy to support Functional Skills/GCSE attainment. Person Specification: Qualified teacher status (QTS) (or equivalent). Experience working with SEND/SEMH pupils, or in alternative provision / PRU / specialist settings — or strong willingness to work in that environment. Excellent behaviour-management, empathy, patience, resilience and adaptability. Ability to differentiate lessons, assess pupils’ starting points, and deliver personalised learning. Strong communication and teamwork — working with mentors, support staff, and liaising with external services if needed. Committed to supporting pupils through both academic and personal challenges, helping them re-engage and build confidence in Maths. Ideal candidate: We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a real difference,  you understand that for these pupils, teaching is not just about delivering the curriculum, but about rebuilding trust, re-engagement, confidence, and helping each young person reach their potential. You should be adaptable, compassionate, and committed to working with young people with additional needs or complex backgrounds. Previous experience in alternative provision, SEMH or SEND settings would be a strong advantage, but willingness to learn and resilience are equally important. We offer: • Competitive rates of pay from between £150 - £220 per day (AWR Compliant) • On the job training provided by the school • 24/7 support and feedback from experienced education consultants • We pride ourselves on intelligently matching our supply and permanent candidates to schools, ensuring that the opportunities stretch and fulfil career ambitions.
