Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate, adaptable, and creative Maths and English Tutor to work one-to-one with a young person in the Tidworth area who is currently disengaged from mainstream education.
About the Role:
This young person is in Year 9 and presents with persistent refusal of learning-related tasks or instructions. They are able to maintain attention for up to 15 minutes at a time, so we are looking for a Tutor who can plan diverse, practical, and engaging sessions that respond flexibly to their needs and interests.
The young person is not currently working at Age-Related Expectations (ARE) and will require baseline assessments to identify gaps in their learning and inform a personalised learning plan.
As an English and Maths Tutor, you will:
Deliver one-to-one Maths and English tuition
Plan and deliver engaging, practical sessions tailored to the student's interests and attention span (up to 15 minutes)
Conduct baseline assessments to identify learning gaps and create a personalised learning plan.
Adapt teaching methods and materials to suit the student's current level and engagement capacity.
Build a trusting relationship to foster a positive and supportive learning environment.
Celebrate small achievements to encourage progress and boost confidence.
About you:
A patient and empathetic educator with experience working with young people who may have experienced barriers to learning.
Someone confident in delivering Maths and English at KS3 level, with the ability to adapt content and delivery style to suit the learner's engagement levels.
A professional who can build trusting relationships, foster positive learning experiences, and celebrate small steps of progress.
Experience with SEND, SEMH, or alternative education settings is highly desirable.

Flexible - to be agreed based on the young person's availability and engagement capacity.

Essential & Desirable Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with young people
Experience of working with learners with SENDTo be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:
Hold right to work in the UK
Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
Provide references upon request
Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)Before You Apply
