Job Description

Leadership and Management Lead the Maths department team (teachers, TAs, possibly numeracy coordinators). Line manage departmental staff, oversee appraisals and professional development. Set departmental vision aligned with whole-school priorities. Curriculum Design and Delivery Plan, review, and implement the KS3–KS5 maths curriculum (including GCSE and A-Level if offered). Ensure high standards of teaching and learning across all key stages. Introduce or maintain schemes of work, assessments, and intervention strategies. Data and Progress Monitoring Analyse performance data to track pupil progress and identify areas for improvement. Report on departmental performance to SLT (Senior Leadership Team). Lead on strategies to close attainment gaps and support underachieving students. Teaching Typically teach a reduced timetable, often including top sets or exam classes. Model outstanding teaching and support others to improve their practice. Departmental Administration Manage the department’s budget and resources. Oversee exam entries, coursework, and compliance with exam board requirements. Ensure adherence to school policies, e.g., safeguarding, assessment, and behaviour. Required Qualifications and Experience QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). Substantial experience teaching maths across multiple key stages. Proven track record of strong pupil outcomes. Prior experience in middle leadership (e.g. Second in Department or Key Stage Coordinator) is usually expected. Desirable Skills Leadership and strategic planning. Ability to mentor and coach staff. Strong data literacy and understanding of assessment. Confidence with school management software (e.g., SIMS, Arbor). Experience with whole-school initiatives (numeracy, CPD delivery, etc.). Salary In London, pay typically ranges from £50,(Apply online only) to £65,(Apply online only), depending on the school, experience, and whether it's an Inner, Outer, or Fringe London location. This includes a TLR (Teaching and Learning Responsibility) payment, usually TLR1, which reflects the higher level of responsibility
