ABOUT MOTIONTECH
MotionTech is a specialist manufacturer and provider of materials handling solutions, designing and building mechanical systems including conveyors, frames, and automated handling equipment for customers across the UK. The business has a strong engineering heritage and a shopfloor culture built on quality, safety, and getting the job done properly. The team is hands-on, straight-talking, and takes real pride in what they build.
THE ROLE
This is a hands-on lead position overseeing a team of ten assembly operatives and fitters in a busy mechanical assembly environment. You will report directly to the Production Manager and be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of mechanical assembly activity — keeping work safe, on time, and built to standard. Success in this role means a team that works well, quality that holds, and a shopfloor you are proud to run.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
You'll:
Lead and coordinate the mechanical assembly team daily, allocating work against plan and priorities
Coach and develop operatives on skills, quality standards, and safe working behaviours
Assemble mechanical equipment to drawings and specifications (conveyors, frames, guards, rollers, motors)
Interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and work instructions; flag discrepancies early
Run pre-task briefings, toolbox talks, and daily safety checks to maintain a safe shopfloor
Carry out quality checks at first-off, in-process, and final stages; escalate concerns promptly
Support planning, material readiness, and cross-department communication to keep production on track
Drive 5S housekeeping standards: clear walkways, correct storage, and zero-tolerance on unsafe practice
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Essential:
A solid background in mechanical assembly in a manufacturing or engineering environment
Experience leading a small team as a team leader, lead hand, or senior fitter
Confident reading engineering drawings, BOMs, and build instructions
Good working knowledge of workshop safety: manual handling, power tools, lifting, PPE
Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience (NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds)
Useful, not essential:
Experience assembling conveyors or material handling equipment
Forklift, overhead crane, or lifting gear training
Familiarity with lean / 5S and continuous improvement principles
IOSH Working Safely or First Aid at Work (or willingness to complete)

Location: Nottingham, NG6 8RE | On-site
