Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: North West, UK 

Our Client

Our Client is an established engineering business is looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across liquid handling, mixing systems, and thermal energy applications within the food and drink manufacturing sector.

Key Responsibilities
Design liquid handling and mixing systems to meet food-grade and hygienic standards

Produce 2D and 3D CAD drawings (AutoCAD) including pipework layouts, skids, and mechanical assemblies

Design cooling systems, hot water generation, and heat recovery solutions

Specify key components such as pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and tanks

Develop GA drawings, P&IDs, and isometric pipework drawings

Collaborate closely with process, electrical, and installation teams

Support site surveys, equipment selection, and on-site engineering activities

Requirements
Degree / HND / HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)

Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (2D & 3D)

Experience designing pipework systems, ideally within hygienic or food-grade environments

Solid understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics

Knowledge of hot and chilled water systems, heat recovery, and energy-efficient solutions

Strong technical communication and documentation skills
