About the Role
An innovative UK-based manufacturer in the field of environmental and marine technology is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its dedicated R&D team. This medium-sized engineering team is responsible for developing complex electronic products used in challenging underwater environments around the world.
This is a hands-on design and development role where you’ll be creating the mechanical components of the next generation of products, using 3D CAD tools to take ideas from concept through to manufacture. The position is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent CAD skills, and a collaborative approach.
What You’ll Be Doing

Design and develop mechanical components and housings for advanced instrumentation systems.

Create detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
*
Support prototyping, testing, and refinement of products for both new and existing markets.
*
Collaborate closely with R&D colleagues, suppliers, and production teams.
*
Contribute to continuous product improvements and assist in resolving production challenges.
*
Use additional CAD tools such as 3D rendering, rapid prototyping, and (optionally) FEA/CFD simulation.
What We’re Looking For
Required:
*
A Level 5/6 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (e.g., HND or Bachelor's degree).
*
At least 1 year of relevant industry experience.
*
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and technical drafting for manufacturing.
*
Ability to manage your own workload effectively.
*
Confident communicator, able to liaise with colleagues, suppliers, and customers.
Desirable:
*
Experience using SolidWorks or similar 3D design software.
*
Familiarity with building and working on complex mechanical assemblies.
*
Knowledge of designing with plastics, adhesives, or optomechanical components.
*
Practical experience in machining, fitting, or hands-on prototyping.
