We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading contractor in the UK water industry, who are looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer at their Birmingham office. This is a permanent, office-based position offering a competitive salary and the chance to work on a wide range of clean and wastewater infrastructure projects.
The Role:
As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be a key part of a multidisciplinary team delivering mechanical design solutions across multiple water and wastewater schemes. This role suits someone who thrives in a technical environment and is confident taking projects from concept through to construction support.
Key Responsibilities:
Producing detailed mechanical designs including layouts, calculations, specifications, and equipment schedules.
Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
Coordinating with electrical, process, and civil engineers to develop integrated solutions.
Providing technical support throughout design development, procurement, and construction phases.
Ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and client requirements (e.g. WIMES). Requirements:
Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Experience in mechanical design within the water industry (clean or wastewater).
Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D modelling software (e.g., SolidWorks, Revit).
Familiarity with Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specifications (WIMES).
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Desirable:
Chartered or working towards Chartership (IMechE or equivalent).
Site experience or understanding of mechanical installation practices.
Experience working with UK water utility frameworks.
Package & Benefits:
Salary £45,000 – £55,000 per annum (depending on experience)
