Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Bury | Type: Permanent | Onsite: Hybrid / as required | Salary: Competitive VIQU IT have partnered with a leading organisation specialising in HVAC and specialist ventilation systems for safety-critical facilities. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of mechanical design projects, drive innovation in HVAC systems, and work closely with senior engineering leadership. The Role As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll design and develop HVAC systems for various building types, ensuring they are energy-efficient, sustainable, and compliant with relevant codes and standards. Key responsibilities include: Designing HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, and equipment layout. Performing heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software. Selecting HVAC equipment and preparing technical specifications. Developing detailed design drawings and documentation using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar tools. Ensuring compliance with building codes and energy regulations. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle. Conducting site visits for inspections, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Preparing cost estimates and supporting procurement processes. Integrating sustainable and energy-efficient design practices. What You’ll Need Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent). Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., Hevacomp). Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and BIM workflows. Understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer. Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (CIBSE, BS EN). Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Experience in Energy, Defence, Transport, or similar sectors is desirable.
