The Opportunity
Are you a Mechanical Engineer with a couple of years under your belt, looking to take the next step in your career? Whether you’ve spent the last two years behind a desk in a Design Consultancy or on-site in Contracting, Branta are looking for a versatile engineer to join a busy Project Delivery team.
This role offers the perfect "bridge" for an engineer who wants to move away from pure CAD work or pure site-supervision and into a full-lifecycle Project Engineering role. You will be given the autonomy to manage your own smaller schemes while receiving direct mentorship on large-scale infrastructure projects.
Key Accountabilities
*
Project Ownership: Manage mechanical building services solutions for office refurbishments, laboratory fit-outs, and infrastructure upgrades from initial concept to final handover.
*
Design & Specification: Prepare mechanical designs, specifications, and tender documents. (Design candidates will apply their technical skills; Contracting candidates will learn the formal design process).
*
Sustainability: Drive energy-efficient solutions and support carbon-reduction goals across the portfolio.
*
Financial Awareness: Assist in producing feasibility reports, tracking project budgets, and ensuring cost-effective delivery.
*
Compliance & Safety: Apply CDM 2015 regulations and CIBSE guidelines to all work, ensuring high standards of Health & Safety.
*
Contractor Management: Monitor the performance of external contractors on-site to ensure work meets design specifications and quality standards.
*
Commissioning: Participate in the commissioning of mechanical systems to ensure they meet operational requirements.
The Person
Experience & Skills
*
The Ŗ-Year Milestone": You will likely have around 2 years of post-qualification experience in either a building services design office or a mechanical contracting environment.
*
Technical Knowledge: A solid grasp of HVAC, pipework, and thermal dynamics. Familiarity with Building Regulations and CIBSE standards.
*
Software Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD. Exposure to MEPWorx, Hevacomp, or Revit is a significant advantage.
*
Problem Solving: A practical approach to engineering challenges—you can identify an issue and work methodically toward a solution.
*
Communication: Ability to write clear technical reports and communicate effectively with both site trades and senior stakeholders.
Attributes
*
Inquisitive: A strong desire to understand how buildings work and how to optimize them for energy efficiency.
*
Adaptable: Comfortable moving between a professional office environment and active construction sites.
*
Collaborative: A team player who is happy to support senior engineers while also taking the initiative on individual tasks.
Qualifications
*
Essential: A Degree or HND/Level 4+ qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
*
Development: We actively support candidates working towards Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered (CEng) status, not essential.
