Job Vacancy Mechanical Engineer, Kirkbymoorside Our client is a world leader for the supply of Work Class ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles). Observation Class ROVs, Trenchers and Submarine Rescue Systems providing innovative solutions for challenging deep water intervention operations. Design and manufacture of these systems is based at the facility at Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire which is part of a worldwide company with headquarters in Houston, USA. These products are known worldwide for unrivalled quality and technical excellence utilising a wealth of experience, delivering products that perform reliably in hostile environments. Job purpose: To provide engineering design and support functions, under the instruction of more senior engineers. Key Responsibilities: (Key Tasks) • Provide design input on projects, using the technical competencies listed below. • Produce engineering designs, specifications and documentation to ISO 9001. • Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals. • Offsite engineering support for new products. • Assist sales and marketing in the preparation of quotes and proposals. • Provide customer support. • Provide technical support to the production, logistics and integration departments. • Work within the requirements of company procedures and national/international regulations. • Work within the timescales and budgets set by the company. • Other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager. Accountabilities: (Deliverables) • Ensure the suitability of the engineering aspects of company products for their function. • Prompt replies to production, logistical and technical support questions. • Provide design input on all projects as required, within the timescales set by the company. Education/Qualifications (essential): • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related/equivalent subject (lesser qualifications coupled with suitable experience may be considered in some circumstances). Technical Competencies (essential): • Structural analysis, scoping calculations, hand calculations. • Assembly methods and maintenance. • Inspection, testing and certification requirements • Completing and checking designs and documentation. • Tolerancing, limits and fits. Technical Competencies (desirable): • Finite Element Analysis using Ansys and/or SolidWorks Simulation. • Mechanisms, kinematics, and power transmission. • Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques, anodising, welding, heat treatment, painting, additive, machining, cutting, folding, and NDT requirements. • Good theoretical understanding of material science for sub-sea use including galvanic and other corrosion effects. • Oil, gas and water hydraulics, including sealing systems, e.g. O-rings, seals, hydraulic fittings, etc. • Ergonomics. • Drawing layout and symbols. Key Skills (essential): • Safety conscious, attentive to QHS&E policies and regulations (ISO 9001 QA systems). • Sound engineering knowledge. • Cost consciousness. • Technical drawing competence as defined above. • Flexibility, adaptability and professionalism, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a multidiscipline team or individually on projects. • Time management with ability to plan work loadings, multi-task, and work under pressure. • Ability to problem solve. • Good verbal and written communication skills, clear technical writing, good record keeping. • Attention to detail and effective checking regime. • Software skills. Microsoft Office Suite. • Software skills. 2D and 3D CAD (e.g. AutoCAD/DraftSight, SolidWorks). • Willingness to learn new engineering skills. Key Skills (desirable): • Ability to liaise with other members of staff including customers and third parties. Experience (desirable): • Engineering design environment, one year minimum. • Engineering shop floor experience. • Offshore experience. • Design of ROV systems and associated equipment. QHSE Competencies: • Maintain behaviour in compliance with Forum HSE requirements. • Maintain responsibility and accountability through personal commitment and behaviour
