Job Description

Are you an experienced Mechanical Technician with a strong background in construction site support and technical verification? Do you have a solid understanding of project specifications and enjoy being involved across design reviews, on-site inspections, and commissioning activities? Rate - £40-45 Ltd per hour (Outside of IR35 subject to an IR35 assessment confirming outside status) Location - Reading Duration - 6 Month Contract The Opportunity A leading engineering consultancy is looking for a driven Mechanical Technician to support project teams delivering complex infrastructure upgrades. This role offers the chance to work on critical engineering packages across the full lifecycle – from verifying design compliance and managing subcontractor outputs to supporting construction and commissioning activities on site. We would also welcome applications from these industries defence, power generation, water utilities, nuclear, and rail. Your duties and responsibilities will be * Collaborate with project managers to ensure outsourced mechanical design work meets required standards and project deliverables. * Conduct site inspections to verify installations align with engineering drawings and technical specifications. * Validate equipment details and ensure all necessary data is captured for asset registers and O&M manuals. * Review third-party design documents and ensure compliance with contract requirements. * Assist design teams by flagging practical issues and contributing to the development of buildable design solutions. * Raise, track, and resolve technical queries with internal teams and subcontractors. * Support selection and onboarding of mechanical subcontractors, helping ensure quality and capability. * Attend and witness factory acceptance testing to ensure delivered systems meet design intent. * Work closely with site delivery teams to ensure engineering support is available during key phases of construction. * Engage in promoting and maintaining a strong health and safety culture on site, including active participation in safety initiatives. You will have the following qualifications and experience * City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in a mechanical or building services discipline (minimum requirement). * Valid CSCS card. * Demonstrated experience working to strict design specifications and standards on large engineering projects. * Must be eligible to obtain SC (Security Clearance) for sensitive project environments.
