Mechanical Fitter
Location: Bridgwater, Taunton, Ilminster, Yeovil, Chard, Tiverton, Minehead
Salary: £18.50 + company benefits
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join a dynamic and innovative engineering business. This is an exciting, hands-on role involving the assembly, fitting, and installation of a wide range of mechanical systems and machinery, working from detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
Responsibilities:
* Assemble, fit, and install mechanical components and machinery in line with technical drawings and build schedules.
* Carry out machine build, fitting of pneumatics, bearings, shafts, motors, couplings, and other precision components.
* Ensure all machinery is assembled and completed in accordance with safety and quality standards, adhering to British, European, and International regulations.
* Conduct functional and quality checks, identifying and resolving mechanical or alignment issues.
* Work collaboratively as part of a skilled team while maintaining the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Support continuous improvement in build efficiency and quality.
Requirements:
* Time-served Mechanical Fitter or equivalent engineering apprenticeship/qualification.
* Strong mechanical assembly and machine build experience (automation or special-purpose machinery advantageous).
* Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical engineering drawings and assembly schematics.
* Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics preferred.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* Committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and organised working environment.
Hours:
* Monday–Thursday: 8:00am–4:30pm
* Friday: 8:00am–1:30pm
