Altera Recruitment is proud to be supporting a respected engineering contractor in their search for a skilled and safety-conscious Mechanical Engineer/Fitter. This is a hands-on role combining both workshop and on-site responsibilities, suited to an individual with solid mechanical fitting experience and a strong awareness of health and safety standards.
The Mechanical Engineer/Fitter will be responsible for carrying out a range of mechanical tasks while adhering to company and client policies across multiple locations. Reporting directly to Project Managers, the role supports the safe and efficient execution of engineering works while upholding the highest standards in quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct mechanical fitting, assembly, and maintenance across site locations and within the workshop.
* Always wear required PPE and follow all site-specific health, safety, and environmental protocols.
* Work in line with RAMS, method statements, and company safety procedures.
* Refer to COSHH data sheets when handling any hazardous substances or materials.
* Carry out additional mechanical duties as directed by Project Managers, ensuring task completion to expected standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Demonstrable experience in mechanical fitting, preferably within construction, utilities, or engineering sectors.
* Relevant mechanical qualifications and a good understanding of site-based safety practices.
* Familiarity with working from risk assessments and method statements.
* Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
* Self-driven, adaptable, and able to work both independently and within a team.
What the Role Offers:
* Competitive pay rate of £17.77 per hour, including door-to-door travel pay.
* Overtime available: 1.5x after 6pm weekdays, 1.5x Saturdays, 2x Sundays, and a 1 in 6 callout rota.
* Shared company vehicle provided (permitted for commuting and transporting colleagues).
* Use of personal tools allowed, with company-provided tools logged and assigned.
