Mechanical Fitter Opportunity - Precision Engineering This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a precision engineering business in Skelmanthorpe during an exciting period of growth and investment. The site offers a clean, well-equipped workshop environment with a strong focus on quality, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement. This role suits a hands-on professional who takes pride in delivering work to the highest standards. You'll be assembling high-specification components, supporting machine build projects, and playing a key part in delivering reliable, precision-engineered products to a global customer base. Position Overview As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and maintaining complex mechanical systems and bespoke machinery. Working closely with engineers and project teams, you'll ensure components are built to exact tolerances and aligned with customer specifications and technical drawings. Key Responsibilities Maintain a hands-on presence, providing support with breakdowns, fault-finding, and critical maintenance when required. Assemble and fit mechanical components with precision, using engineering drawings and build specifications. Carry out mechanical installations, alignments, and adjustments across a variety of machines and equipment. Support machine builds, from individual component preparation to full system assembly. Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults, ensuring minimal rework or delay. Collaborate with engineers to refine builds and suggest improvements during prototype and production phases. Follow all site Health & Safety procedures and maintain a clean, organised workspace. Use a variety of hand tools, measurement instruments, and workshop equipment effectively and safely. Key Requirements Recognised mechanical engineering qualification or time-served apprenticeship. Proven experience in mechanical fitting or machine assembly, ideally within a precision engineering environment. Strong ability to interpret and work from technical drawings and build instructions. Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks. Good understanding of tolerances, fits, and material handling in a precision setting. Confident using workshop tools, including torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, and pneumatic equipment. Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced workshop environment. Health & Safety awareness and commitment to safe working practices.
