I am recruiting on behalf of my client, a leading international manufacturing organisation specialising in sustainable and innovative packaging solutions, for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their established site team.

As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring site machinery operates efficiently and reliably. Working on a shift-based rota, the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for hands-on maintenance, fault finding, and repair of a wide range of mechanical systems to minimise downtime and support continuous production.
In this Mechanical Maintenance Engineer position, your responsibilities will include:
Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine inspections across site equipment
Diagnosing and resolving mechanical faults quickly to reduce production downtime
Repairing or replacing components across machinery including thermoformers, extruders, conveyors, compressors, pumps, motors, HVAC systems, and gearboxes
Supporting installation, commissioning, and testing of new machinery
Ensuring all maintenance activities comply with Health & Safety, Quality, Hygiene, and Environmental standards
Completing maintenance documentation, reports, and handovers accurately
Working collaboratively with production teams, maintenance colleagues, and external contractors
Managing and maintaining spare parts inventory and escalating requirements when needed
Supporting root cause analysis investigations and implementing long-term solutions
Identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and performance
Supporting fire safety procedures, including alarm testing and acting as a fire marshal when required
Highlighting potential equipment or tooling issues that may impact production performanceTo be successful in this Mechanical Maintenance Engineer role, you will need:
A recognised mechanical qualification (City & Guilds, ONC/HNC or equivalent)
Proven experience within a manufacturing or production environment
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, and HVAC
Experience working with PPM systems and maintenance schedules
Solid fault-finding and problem-solving skills, ideally with Root Cause Analysis experience
The ability to work effectively within a shift-based environmentDesirable skills for the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer include:
Welding and fabrication experience
