The site in Manchester offers a clean, well-equipped workshop environment with a strong focus on quality, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement. This role suits a hands-on professional who takes pride in keeping critical equipment running to the highest standards. You'll be maintaining presses, furnaces, tooling, vertical presses, and other specialised equipment, ensuring optimal performance and precision in line with zero tolerance requirements. Position Overview As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance on a range of heavy engineering machinery and systems. Working closely with the production and engineering teams, you'll ensure equipment runs smoothly, downtime is minimised, and machinery meets exacting tolerances for global customers. Key Responsibilities Maintain a hands-on presence, responding quickly to breakdowns and performing fault-finding on heavy engineering machinery. Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on presses, furnaces, tooling, and vertical presses. Carry out mechanical installations, alignments, and adjustments across a variety of equipment. Ensure all maintenance work is completed to zero tolerance specifications where required. Support continuous improvement projects to enhance machinery reliability and efficiency. Work from engineering drawings and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve issues. Follow all site Health & Safety procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.Key Requirements Recognised mechanical engineering qualification or time-served apprenticeship. Proven experience in heavy engineering maintenance, ideally with press, furnace, tooling, and vertical press systems. Strong understanding of tolerances, fits, and material handling in a precision setting. Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills. Confident in using workshop tools, including torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, and pneumatic equipment. Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
