Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Project Engineer Location: Newcastle upon Tyne Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent Job Overview: Branta Recruitment are seeking an experienced and proactive Mechanical Project Engineer to join a growing team and support the delivery of several high-profile commercial developments across the North East. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring all mechanical elements of the projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will work closely with design, procurement, and site teams, acting as a key liaison between the client, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of all mechanical systems. Key Responsibilities: Project Delivery: * Manage and oversee all mechanical aspects of projects to meet schedule, budget, and client requirements. * Coordinate mechanical works with other disciplines, including electrical, controls, and building fabric. * Attend and actively contribute to internal and client-facing project meetings. Technical Support: * Provide technical guidance to design and procurement teams throughout the project lifecycle. * Review and prepare technical submissions, mechanical designs, and O&M documentation. * Check construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents for accuracy and compliance. Site Management: * Conduct regular site inspections to ensure mechanical works meet quality standards, health & safety regulations, and project specifications. * Work alongside site delivery teams and subcontractors to resolve issues and maintain programme targets. * Support commissioning processes and ensure as-built documentation is accurate and complete. Client & Stakeholder Engagement: * Serve as a primary contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and strong working relationships. * Collaborate with commercial and project teams to address client queries and requirements promptly. Requirements: * Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience). * Proven experience delivering mechanical packages on commercial construction projects. * Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, public health services, plant rooms, and associated building services. * Understanding of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., CIBSE, BSRIA, Building Regulations). * Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills. * Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. * CSCS card and relevant site safety training (SMSTS/SSSTS) preferred. Desirable: * Experience working on large-scale commercial or mixed-use developments. * Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Fieldview, Viewpoint, or similar). * Awareness of energy efficiency and sustainability considerations in mechanical systems.
