Mechanical Maintenance Engineer – 4 on, 4 off
Kidderminster | Weekly Pay | Real Tools, Not Just Toolkits
Let’s keep this simple: the plant needs to keep running. You’ll be one of the reasons it does.
This is a proper hands-on maintenance job, not a desk role disguised with a hi-vis. You’ll be on the tools, dealing with breakdowns, doing your part on the PPMs, and stopping things from falling apart in the first place.
Yes, it’s shift work (4 on, 4 off – 6–6, days and nights), but you’ll get half the year off. And you won’t be called out on your days off because someone forgot how to use a spanner.
What you’ll actually be doing:
Fixing gearboxes, drive chains, pneumatics, hydraulics - anything that stops running, you’ll be on it
Fabricating and welding when needed (Mig/Arc, no need to be a coded expert, just competent)
Helping improve the kit, not just patching it up
Diagnosing faults like someone who knows the difference between a guess and a test
Working as part of an in-house team that doesn’t rely on third-party contractors every time something goes bang
You’ll need:
A mechanical bias and some experience in a factory or industrial setting
A Level 3 qualification (apprenticeship, NVQ, or similar)
The ability to get stuck in without waiting for permission
A decent eye for safety, not just ticking boxes
Experience with bearings, alignment, fault-finding, hydraulics and pneumatics
Must be able to weld / bench fit / operate machinery
Bonus points for:
Fabrication experience
HNC/HND or apprenticeship background
Knowing your way around some basic electrics or control systems
Working in heavy industry
