Mechanical Site Manager – Data Centre Expansion Gloucester | £300/day CIS | Freelance | Project Completion: Christmas 2025
A freelance opportunity is available for a Mechanical Site Manager to join the delivery team on a major data centre expansion in Gloucester. The project, valued at over £12 million, is halfway through and due for completion by the end of 2025. This is a live environment upgrade involving the creation of new white space, full mechanical cooling systems, generator replacement, HV/LV infrastructure upgrades, new chiller compounds, and full internal fit out including mezzanine and raised access flooring. It’s a technically complex programme requiring strong on-site coordination, high standards of delivery, and the ability to manage subcontractors in a critical environment.
This role is ideal for a mechanical professional with experience in fast-paced M&E environments such as hospitals, pharmaceuticals, laboratories, or critical plant upgrades. Previous data centre experience is not required—sector specialists are already embedded in the wider team. What matters is your ability to manage the site, coordinate works, and maintain high standards of safety, documentation, and delivery.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the full mechanical package on site, managing subcontractors and plant logistics, reporting on programme and commercial progress, ensuring compliance with H&S standards, and liaising with the project management and commercial teams to ensure delivery remains on track. You’ll be part of a wider site delivery team including Project Managers, fellow Site Managers, and a dedicated QS.
To be considered, you’ll need demonstrable experience delivering mechanical packages in live, high-spec environments and hold valid SMSTS, Black CSCS, First Aid, and a full UK driving licence. A qualification in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (HNC/HND/Degree) is also expected.
