Mechanical Site Team Leader / Site Coordinator (Substation / HVDC) – Outside IR35 – £450 per day Contract: Outside IR35 Rate: £450 per day worked Location: Beauly, Scotland Start Date: Immediate start available Duration: Contract (initial term with potential extension) Recruitment Agency: Spencer Ogden Overview Spencer Ogden is seeking an experienced Mechanical Site Team Leader / Site Coordinator with a background in substation and HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) projects to support and drive key work areas within a major energy infrastructure project based in Beauly. Working on behalf of the Site Manager, you will lead small site teams, ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and construction activities are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader with proven experience in high-voltage power, substation, or transmission projects. Key Responsibilities * Lead and coordinate small mechanical site teams on substation and HVDC construction activities, delivering work fronts safely, on time, and within budget. * Forward plan to ensure all required engineering information, plant, materials, and labour are available to meet project schedules. * Liaise with multiple work parties to ensure efficient and safe coordination across all work areas. * Identify and report potential deviations, delays, or disruptions from the original scope. * Ensure compliance with all site rules, procedures, and safety standards. * Assist in preparing and completing project documentation to meet key milestones. * Promote a proactive health and safety culture across all site operations. Experience & Skills * Apprentice-trained, City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant mechanical or electrical discipline. * Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in a supervisory or team leader role within mechanical, substation, HVDC, or power transmission projects. * Strong background in mechanical and/or electrical installation within high-voltage environments. * Demonstrated ability to lead site teams and coordinate multiple work fronts. * Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other basic IT systems. * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset. Required Certifications * CSCS / CCNSG Safety Passport * SSSTS or SMSTS * 3-Day First Aid * IPAF / MEWP / Roto 360 * Temporary Works Supervisor * HSG47 (Avoiding Underground Services) * Manual Handling & Working at Height * Fire Safety Awareness Client-Specific Authorisations (desirable): * SSE Authorisation Cat 3 * Scottish Power / NG Person BESC * NG Competent Person NSI6 / NSI8 Personal Attributes * Positive, proactive leadership style with a focus on safety and quality. * Strong communication and conflict resolution skills. * Organised, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently or as part of a wider project team.
