Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to oversee all mechanical works during the construction of a solar farm. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of mounting structures, trackers, and associated mechanical components. This is a hands-on supervisory role that requires strong leadership, organisational ability, and effective communication, along with a proven background in renewable energy or large mechanical infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
The Mechanical Supervisor will coordinate all aspects of mechanical installation, from assembly and erection of racking systems through to integration with civil and electrical works. They will ensure that all work complies with project specifications, drawings, and quality standards while maintaining strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental requirements. Daily site inspections, toolbox talks, and subcontractor coordination will form a core part of the role, together with monitoring progress against programme and reporting to the Project Manager. The position also involves liaising with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical challenges, overseeing deliveries and storage of mechanical components, and maintaining accurate site records to support quality assurance and project handover.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record as a Mechanical Supervisor or Foreman on utility-scale solar farms, large renewable projects, or comparable mechanical infrastructure schemes. They should have a good understanding of solar mounting systems and tracker technologies, be confident in reading and interpreting construction drawings, and demonstrate proven leadership in managing subcontractors. A solid awareness of health, safety, and environmental regulations is essential, as is the ability to resolve issues quickly while maintaining project momentum. Strong communication and reporting skills are required, together with competency in basic IT tools such as MS Office.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a mechanical trade qualification or relevant engineering background, ideally supported by SSSTS or SMSTS certification. A valid CSCS card is essential. First Aid at Work training would be advantageous, and a full UK driving licence with flexibility to travel is required.
