Are you an experienced mechanical engineer with strong plumbing skills and a passion for leading teams in a healthcare setting? South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Team Leader to join our Estates & Facilities team based at Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell.
In this pivotal role, you will lead a skilled team responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical maintenance, repair, and installation services across our mental health facilities. You will ensure that mechanical systems—including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and plumbing—operate efficiently and safely, supporting a comfortable and compliant healthcare environment for patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate a team of mechanical and plumbing technicians, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of maintenance and repair work.
* Oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, and minor works across the estate.
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and HTM (Health Technical Memorandum) standards and NHS engineering best practices.
* Liaise with other estates teams, clinical departments, and external contractors to ensure minimal disruption to hospital operations.
* Maintain up-to-date records of work carried out using the Trust’s CAFM system.
* Support energy efficiency initiatives and contribute to sustainability goals.
* Participate in the on-call rota and provide emergency response when required.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
* A qualified mechanical engineer with recognised City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or plumbing.
* Experienced in managing and supervising technical teams within a hospital or similar complex environment.
* Knowledgeable about HVAC, hot and cold water systems, pressure systems, and relevant regulations and standards (e.g., Legionella control, COSHH, LOLER).
* Organised, adaptable, and able to lead a responsive team in a fast-paced setting.
* A strong communicator and problem solver with a proactive, can-do attitude.
* This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience.
