Responsibilities and duties of the Mechanical Technician
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will:
Carry out planned preventive maintenance and corrective mechanical repairs to maximise plant availability.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults across equipment in Mechanical Treatment, Anaerobic Digestion, and Incineration areas.
Complete all maintenance records and work orders accurately within the CMMS system.
Support safe working practices by following permits, risk assessments, and leading by example during toolbox talks and handovers.
Assist with monitoring plant performance and work closely with operations and engineering teams to meet site KPIs.
Coordinate with contractors and suppliers during on-site maintenance or repair activities.
Contribute to managing mechanical spare parts, ensuring stock accuracy and availability.
Provide support and guidance to less experienced team members, helping to develop technical capability within the team.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification or time-served mechanical apprenticeship.
Proven experience carrying out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance, including fault-finding and repair activities.
Strong understanding of Safe Systems of Work, including risk assessments and permit-to-work processes.
Competence using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for recording maintenance activities.
Ability to liaise effectively with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to support maintenance operations.
Personal skills
Safety-focused, proactive, and dependable with a hands-on approach to problem solving.
Strong communicator with a collaborative mindset and willingness to support wider engineering and operations teams.
Organised, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining high standards of performance and compliance.
