This school supports KS3 and KS4 students aged 13-16 who face barriers to learning in mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional, or social challenges.
This is a full-time, term time only role starting in September 2025, with interviews and trial days taking place as soon as possible. It's an exciting opportunity for a practical, hands-on educator to inspire students and help them develop valuable mechanical skills for the future.
Location: Nottingham (NG5)
Salary: £180 - £210 per day (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-Time | Term Time Only | Long Term to Permanent
Start Date: September 2025

About the Role
As a Mechanics Teacher in this Alternative Provision, you will deliver engaging and practical motor vehicle and mechanical workshops to small groups of students. You will combine industry expertise with teaching skills to re-engage learners, build their confidence, and prepare them for recognised vocational qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver high-quality mechanics lessons for KS3 and KS4 students.
Provide both mechanical theory teaching and hands-on workshop-based instruction.
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and well-managed workshop environment.
Track and monitor student progress, adapting teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
Work closely with pastoral staff and behaviour mentors to support each learner's development.
Requirements:
Industry-based experience in mechanics, motor vehicle, or engineering.
Experience teaching or instructing mechanics, engineering, or motor vehicle maintenance (desirable).
Understanding of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and behaviour support strategies.
Resilience, patience, and a passion for vocational education.
A teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, or FE qualification) is advantageous but not essential.
