About MedSurg Elective Care Limited MedSurg Elective Care Limited is an innovative clinical insourcing provider, established to support NHS Trusts in tackling elective care waiting lists with high-quality, safe, and sustainable solutions. We deliver consultant-led surgical and medical services directly within NHS settings, using a robust, governance-led model that aligns with CQC standards and NHS England frameworks. Our founding ethos is built on NHS values, clinical excellence, patient-centred care, and agility. As a healthcare start-up, we are ambitious, forward-thinking and committed to delivering results without compromising on safety or quality. We are now seeking a senior, experienced, and visionary Medical Director to join our leadership team at a critical phase of growth and innovation. Role Overview The Medical Director will serve as the most senior clinical leader within the organisation. This is a strategic and operational role, responsible for the delivery of high- quality care across all clinical programmes, the establishment of robust clinical governance systems, and the professional leadership of our growing consultant workforce. The role offers significant autonomy and influence, working closely with the CEO, operational leads, NHS partners and regulators. It is ideal for a senior consultant or medical leader seeking a flexible, portfolio-aligned position within a values-led and purpose-driven healthcare enterprise. Key Responsibilities Clinical Governance & Patient Safety * Develop, lead, and continuously improve the company’s clinical governance framework. * Chair the Clinical Governance Committee and oversee clinical audit, serious incident (SI) reviews, risk registers, and lessons learned processes. * Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, including GMC standards, CQC regulations, Information Governance (IG), and safeguarding requirements. * Drive a culture of clinical excellence, transparency, and continuous quality improvement across all service lines. Strategic Clinical Leadership * Shape the clinical direction of the organisation in collaboration with the executive team. * Provide input into service design, care pathways, innovation, and quality metrics for insourced NHS care. * Oversee clinical risk and ethics within new models of care and commercial partnerships. * Support the strategic evaluation of new specialties, partnerships, and contract opportunities. Medical Workforce Leadership * Provide senior leadership to the medical workforce, including consultants, nurses, and AHPs. * Support workforce planning, recruitment, credentialing, appraisal, and revalidation processes. * Act as Responsible Officer or collaborate with a partner RO to ensure revalidation compliance and professional standards are maintained. * Promote clinician wellbeing, learning, and engagement throughout the workforce. External Engagement & Partnership Building * Act as the clinical ambassador for MedSurg with NHS Trusts, commissioners, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), regulators, and other stakeholders. * Ensure effective clinical integration with host NHS sites, including adherence to site protocols, shared care models, and patient pathway alignment. * Contribute to contract mobilisation and client onboarding by advising on service readiness, clinical safety, and pathway design. Essential Criteria * GMC registration with a valid licence to practise. * Substantive consultant experience (minimum 5 years at consultant level preferred). * Proven senior leadership experience in clinical governance, patient safety, or medical directorship. * Demonstrable knowledge of NHS elective care pathways, insourcing or outsourced service models. * Excellent knowledge of regulatory standards, including CQC, GMC, and NHS England frameworks. * Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence at board level and engage effectively with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders. Remuneration & Commitment * Paid per Programmed Activity (PA) – competitive rates offered based on experience and scope. * Flexible commitment to suit applicants with existing NHS or independent roles. * Remote working available, with occasional travel to NHS partner sites, board meetings, or clinical governance sessions. * Opportunities for expanded remit or equity participation as the company grows. Why Join MedSurg? * Shape the future of elective care delivery in partnership with the NHS. * Work in a clinically led company with a strong governance culture and mission- driven ethos. * Collaborate with a values-aligned team of professionals dedicated to safe, equitable access to care. * Be part of a start-up environment where your expertise directly influences clinical strategy and patient outcomes
