A welcoming specialist school in Thatcham is looking for a dedicated Mental Health Assistant to join their supportive team as soon as possible. The school supports young people with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and is looking for someone who can provide consistent and compassionate support throughout the school day.
As a Mental Health Assistant, you will play an important role in helping pupils feel safe, understood and supported, whilst encouraging them to develop greater confidence, independence and emotional resilience.
Key responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils experiencing emotional or mental health difficulties
Develop positive and trusting relationships with young people
Support pupils with emotional regulation, anxiety and confidence
Help students manage challenging situations and develop appropriate coping strategies
Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to provide consistent support
Encourage positive engagement with learning and school lifeThis is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in Psychology, Mental Health, Counselling, Education, Youth Work or SEN. Previous experience working with children or young people is beneficial, but the school is also open to graduates and candidates with relevant transferable experience.
