Job Title: Mental Health & Behaviour Support Assistant

Rate of pay: £95 - £105 (per day)
About the role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Assistant to join our inclusive and forward-thinking secondary school in Northumberland from October 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people by supporting their emotional wellbeing and helping to improve behaviour and engagement across the school.
Key Responsibilites:
Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and senior leaders to support students with behavioural and emotional needs
Provide 1:1 and small group interventions aimed at promoting positive behaviour and emotional resilience
Assist in the development and implementation of individual behaviour support plans
Help to manage incidents of challenging behaviour, using de-escalation strategies in line with school policies
Foster positive relationships with students to encourage trust and cooperation
Monitor and record progress and incidents to support staff and parents in planning further interventions
Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students
Personal Specification:
Experience working with young people, preferably in an educational or care setting
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Ability to manage behaviour in a supportive and constructive manner
Strong organisational and teamwork skills
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Team Teach, or similar)
